Catherine Van Tassell holds dual master's degrees in both Social Work and Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah. She is a licensed clinical social worker and a board-certified Physician Assistant, specializing in mental health and lifestyle medicine. She has extensive experience in diverse clinical environments, including both inpatient and outpatient settings that has helped her develop a well-rounded clinical expertise. She is also a certified personal trainer accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and holds a Precision Nutrition Level One Coach certification. Catherine co-teaches the psychiatry course for Physician Assistant students at the University of Utah and practices medicine at Mora Medical, focusing on disease prevention and reversal through Lifestyle Medicine. She currently serves as the Behavioral Health Director for GBS, where she consults with clients on their employee mental health needs, provides mental health trainings including Mental Health First Aid, advises on policy changes, and implements effective mental health solutions.
Catherine has pursued additional training, earning a certificate in Integrative Medicine from the University of Arizona and completing Plant-Based Nutrition and Evidence-Based Optimal Nutrition certificates from eCornell, the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, and Harvard School of Public Health. She is also a Diplomate of Lifestyle Medicine through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Catherine's expertise has been featured in numerous podcasts, articles and seminars, where she has shared insights on plant-based nutrition, mood disorders, addiction, and lifestyle medicine.
Beyond her professional achievements, Catherine enjoys participating in endurance events, having completed multiple Ironman triathlons and ultramarathons. Her dedication to promoting overall wellness through healthy living and lifestyle medicine is a cornerstone of her professional work and personal life.
