North Salt Lake

The City of North Salt Lake has a strong focus on increasing equitable opportunities to be healthy across the city. The city provides access to low and no-cost recreational events and has been intentional in designing active transportation opportunities for all. Recently, North Salt Lake organized a Health and Wellness Committee that meets together regularly to discuss and improve the health of the community. This committee was instrumental in planning and executing an annual Wellness Fair in conjunction with the city's Night Out Against Crime.

2025 Redesignation:
To be redesignated in Fall 2025, North Salt Lake strengthened its focus on active living, employee wellness, and community mental health. The city engaged residents with quarterly trail walks and hikes, incorporated active transportation policies into its general plan, and offered comprehensive wellness programs for city employees, including exercise incentives, team competitions, and dedicated time for physical activity during the workday. North Salt Lake also promoted safe medication disposal and enhanced first responder training on mental health crises and suicide prevention, ensuring both residents and city personnel have the tools to support well-being.

- Hosted quarterly trail walk and hike events on local trail systems.
- Incorporated active transportation into the general plan and established policies to include “Health in All” ordinances, resolutions, or policies in the future.
- Expanded employee wellness programs with exercise incentives, training, and team competitions, earning recognition from PEHP for three consecutive years.
Mental Health
- Implemented a safe medication disposal system at the police department and promoted it via social media.
- Increased first responder training on mental health crises and suicide prevention, including responding to individuals at risk of suicide.
