Healthy Utah Community

Get Healthy Utah is excited to partner with the Utah League of Cities and Towns to support Healthy Utah Community, a new designation program for cities and towns. This designation recognizes communities across Utah that do an exemplary job of implementing evidence-based strategies to improve community health.

Ogden

Ogden

  • Population: 86,825
  • Designation Year: Fall 2021, Fall 2024
  • Ogden has worked to enhance green spaces throughout the city, improve bikeability, and promote a pedestrian-centric infrastructure, which includes the establishment of a Safe Routes to School program. The city also conducted a needs assessment of food security among its residents. To improve healthy eating, Ogden developed an afterschool nutrition education curriculum for elementary students and hosts a farmers market that accepts SNAP benefits. Ogden’s community sports program is flourishing and there are numerous connected walking and biking trails in the area. The city does much to address the health, housing, and educational needs in underserved areas and supports programs offered by the local health department.

    • Gun locks available for free for community members

     

    2024 Redesignation

    To be redesignated, Ogden City partnered with local organizations like the Weber-Morgan Health Department and USU Extension to offer a greater variety of health classes to its residents. Intermountain Health’s Living Well classes were offered at community locations like senior centers and libraries, Create Better Health’s nutrition curriculum was offered at elementary schools, and suicide prevention trainings were made available to local worksites and businesses.
